aerial yoga teacher training

When I first heard of Rasamaya Flying Aerial Yoga, I made an intention to one day be trained in this beautfiul fusion of circus arts and yoga.  Earlier this month I finally had the opportunity to do so.  The training was led by Carrie Tyler, creator of the Rasamaya method of yoga and movement, along with partner in crime Crissy Trayner, in Dover, New Hampshire, home base of Carrie's studio, Dover Yoga and Pilates.

Carrie and Crissy are movement teachers, with extensive backgrounds in yoga, and many hours of aerial training from the New England Center for Circus Arts in Vermont.  Aerial yoga is what you get when you take your asanas off the ground and onto the fabrics.  In the training, I learned how to put together a 2-3 hour workshop starting with yoga on the mat, and proceeding onto the silks for some basic aerial instruction including climbing and foot locks, conditioning work and a chance to try out "aerial sun salutations" and some fun and challenging poses.

This work is physically demanding.  Those with a regular mind body practice such as yoga or Core Fusion can expect to be exhausted, but very impressed by how much they can achieve even the first day.  Core strength, upper body strength, and flexibility will benefit your aerial yoga practice, but there are modifications that can make much of this work accessible even for those who are less conditioned.  For more information on becoming certified in Rasamaya Aerial Yoga you can visit Rasamaya.com.  If you'd just like to try it out for yourself, workshops will be offered periodically through Carrie Tyler's two studios, DoverYoga.com, and RasamayaNewburyport.com

If you'd like to take a workshop with me, let me know!  Possible locations for future workshops include Woburn, and Newburyport, Mass.

I am so grateful to be living my bliss!  Big thanks to Carrie and Crissy for this wonderful experience, and also to Chris of PapayaImages.com for the beautiful photos he captured at the training.
