may storm, a poem by alison luterman

My favorite poem ever.  I keep a framed copy of this hanging up at home.  I know it's October, but I think the message resonates all year round.  And I'm sure I'll repost it in the spring. :)

May Storm

The small roar of the heater
against the greater roar of the wind
bellowing through trees. Something cracks
the sky. It is all my body:
the lightning, the earth,
the soggy, grateful garden,
the battered grass
springing back
after each storm,
more lush, more wild,
more stubbornly green.

  1. Wow, Andrea.... I am so picky about poems, but this is stunning!! Poetry is part of my major and i'm doing my thesis in it, so it is great that you have introduced me to this writer!

  2. I'm glad you like it. :) It was printed in The Sun magazine a while back, which is full of really beautiful writing. Only about 2 poems in each issue but if you are a fan of deep, moving personal essays you should really check it out!!
